Jumpstart for Reading

On Tuesday, December 9, prekindergarten and kindergarten students will have an opportunity to listen to “guests” read the story Corduroy by Don Freeman. To make this event special, prekinder and kinder students may bring their teddy bear or favorite stuffed animal to school on that day.

The shared reading experience will encourage our students to become readers and lifelong learners and instill in them the fact that school and learning is satisfying.

This is an HISD initiative with the Pearson Foundation for Jumpstart’s Read for the Record, a national campaign that helps break the cycle of illiteracy by raising public awareness about the importance of early childhood literacy skills and reading to children.
